Newsletter September 2019

Grace & peace to you in the name of our living Savior, Jesus Christ!

We hope and pray this note finds you well and under the loving and grace-filled care of our heavenly Father. As summer transitions into fall, and as we continue our collective mission of being the hands and feet of our Savior, our minds turn toward future community activities and events, including a very special “Faith In Action: The Feeding of the 10,000” gathering on Saturday, October 19 at Carter Memorial UMC in Needham, MA.

We hope you’ve been saving this date, as SNE Emmaus has teamed with the worldwide Rise Against Hunger organization for a special blend of spiritual renewal and Christian Action. We plan to have all the components of a typical Emmaus gathering – good speaking, good music, good worship and of course, good food – while also having the added opportunity to hear from Keynote Speaker Rev. Megan Stowe, who is the recently appointed District Superintendent for the Central MA District, followed by being in mission with each other as we prepare meals for those in great need.

We encourage you to view, print, and share the event flyer, and also respectfully ask you to please register at https://tinyurl.com/feeding10k if you plan on participating to help facilitate preparation.

The preliminary agenda for the day is as follows:

9:30 – 10:00 – Registration and Fellowship
10:00 – 11:30 – Singing, Welcome, Prayer, Keynote Speaker
11:30 – 12:30 – Catered Lunch (Soups, Sandwiches, Salad, Chips, Dessert)
12:30 – 2:00 – Worship with Communion
2:00 – 4:00 – Meal Packing with Rise Against Hunger

All are welcome, there is no cost for attending, and we encourage you to invite your friends!!  We’d also like to thank those churches and individuals who are providing general or financial assistance for the event which will allow us to keep our eyes focused on the mission. Please note if you’re unable to attend and would like to donate to help defray the event costs, you may send a check made out to “SNE Emmaus” to SNE Emmaus, P.O. Box 125 Manville, RI  02838, noting “Rise Against Hunger” on the memo line. A free-will offering will be taken during worship.

Community Leadership Transition

As our three-year term as Community Lay Directors begins to wind down, we are pleased and excited to announce that the SNE Board of Directors has unanimously elected Dan Genannt to lead God’s SNE community beginning next June. Many of you know that Dan has been a devoted servant to our community for many years, and has blessed both SNE Emmaus and the larger Methodist ministry with his exceptional wisdom, vision, and leadership abilities. We praise God for Dan’s continued willingness to serve, and thank Dan for accepting the mission.

Looking ahead, we’ll be working in the coming months to transition our CLD duties to Dan to ensure a seamless shift. Looking back for just a moment, we’d like to thank all members of the entire SNE community for your support and prayers as we’ve simply tried to keep God’s SNE mission moving forward in a dynamically-changing world. While we first and foremost thank God for all the blessings He’s brought to our community over the past few years including a new website, email system, Facebook presence, increased weekend attendance, expanded gathering focus, and a strong sense of overall renewal, we’d also like to thank all of the past CLDs and Board members who have so well-defined the role of servant and set strong examples. As it would be difficult to list all of the names, and since anonymous servanthood calls us to point to Jesus as the true head, we’ll leave our thank-you note at that … yet please know our thanks to all are heartfelt.

2020 Spring Walks

Lastly, a reminder that our community has migrated to an annual Walk cadence to increase focus and efficiencies, and our next walks are scheduled for April 23 – 26 (Men’s) and April 30 – May 3, 2020 (Women’s). We continue to encourage prospective sponsors to prayerfully consider who God may be placing in your path throughout the year, and to submit applications as you feel led. Doing so will also greatly ease the scheduling process for your leadership team.

May God bless you, and we hope to see you in October!
